The Digest ranked top VoIP providers and reported six leaders within the VoIP industry, all competing for a share of the 1.5 billion-subscriber market. These major VoIP providers are: Charter Communications, Cablevision, Time Warner, Comcast, Skype and Vonage.

The one year snapshot of Comcast performance indicates the same general trend, but a bit bumpier than Cablevision – more like the volatility of Charter’s stock throughout 2008. In September, like all other stocks it declined sharply by over 50% of its original value. It does appear to be struggling to recover with major spikes and tremendous volatility.

Comcast’s volatility is nowhere more apparent than it is in this long-range stock performance chart. There is no clear trend, although the “general” trend clearly follows the rest of the VoIP stocks, which is a drop from 2001 through 2002, a slow, but steady, recovery through 2007, and a sharp decline through 2007 and 2008. For Comcast, within this general trends there are dramatic spikes and valleys along the way.
